Roman bone sword hilt (1st century, approx. 10cm)

This Roman handle made of polished bone is based on finds from the 1st to 3rd centuries and was used as a component of sword grips.

Bone was a valued material for handles among the Romans, as it was stable, comfortable to hold, and decorative. The characteristic shape with twisted grooves and profiled ring elements is known from numerous archaeological finds.

This design reflects a typical handle configuration of the Roman Imperial period and represents an alternative to handles with pronounced finger indentations.
