Roman hairpin made of polished bone with figural decoration in the form of an outstretched hand, based on a 1st-3rd century find from the northwestern provinces of the Roman Empire.

Hairpins were an integral part of Roman personal care and served both practical and decorative purposes. In addition to simple forms, artfully designed specimens with symbolic or personal meanings are also known from archaeological contexts.

The depiction of a human hand is particularly expressive. It can be understood as purely decorative, but is often interpreted as a so-called "oath hand" - a motif that can stand for loyalty, connection, or a promise. Thus, the hairpin acquires an additional symbolic layer beyond its practical function.

The slender form and finely crafted decoration are closely based on historical models and convey an authentic impression of Roman everyday and jewelry culture.
