This Roman hairpin made of polished bone is based on a find from Augst (Switzerland) and dates to the 1st century.
The pin is decorated with a so-called "pig's foot" motif, which was considered a symbol of good luck in the Roman Empire. Especially in the second half of the 1st century, this motif was widely used as a decorative element – on both everyday objects and jewelry.
