Roman bone spoon with spiked handle - Cutlery (1st-2nd century, Apulum, approx. 15cm)

This Roman spoon made of polished bone is based on a find from the 1st to early 2nd century from Apulum (now Romania) and is modelled on the dining culture of the Roman Imperial period.

While bone spoons are common in archaeological finds, they are usually small and simple specimens. This piece stands out due to its comparatively large, finely crafted bowl and follows well-known metal prototypes in its shape.

Particularly characteristic is the pointed handle, which allows food not only to be scooped but also to be picked up – a combination of spoon and skewer, typical of Roman cutlery.

The spoon is ideal for reenactment, living history, or as an unusual collector's item.

Each spoon is handmade and unique. Slight variations are due to the material and craftsmanship.
