This Roman pyxis made of polished bone is based on a find from Pompeii and dates to the 1st century.

Bone was a prized material in Roman antiquity for everyday and luxury items, particularly due to its hygienic properties and fine workability.

Such small boxes, known as pyxides, were used to store ointments, powders, or cosmetics and were part of many people's personal possessions.

The simple, elegant form is complemented by a finely crafted lid with concentric decorations and a baluster-shaped handle.

Each box is handcrafted and individually finished, resulting in slight variations that emphasize its artisanal character.

Ideal for:

  • Storing small items
  • Jewelry or ointments
  • Reenactment & historical display
  • Decorative object with an antique character
