Roman bone hairpin after a find from Xanten, 1st-2nd century, polished bone, approx. 10 cm
This simpler hairpin is decorated with an acanthus leaf. Acanthus is a popular ornament in Roman contexts and regularly appears on column capitals, for example. It also symbolizes the god Bacchus.
Each item is individually carved by hand. Because of this, and because each piece of bone is unique, slight variations may occur.
