Roman ear spoon and nail cleaner, 1st-4th century, polished bone, after a find from Caen in France, approx. 9 cm This small hygiene device combines several functions in one: The spoon can be used to remove earwax, the tip can be used to clean fingernails, and the grooves can be used to file nails. The find's form is chronologically insensitive and can only be classified as "Roman." Each item is individually carved by hand. Because of this, and because each piece of bone is unique, slight variations may occur.
